No more printing and drawings can be opened in no time. With the new TrymaSoft software system, Façadis Gevelbouw is digitalising its window and door production. As part of his graduation project, Huub Kooiker worked on both the research and implementation of the software.

“I study Technical Business Administration at Saxion University of Applied Sciences and, as part of my graduation research, I mapped the number of interruptions – including their causes – among production employees and production planners. One of the causes, for example, was the physical working drawings Façadis used at the time. A working drawing contained an enormous amount of information. Much of this information was unnecessary and made the overall document difficult to navigate,” says Huub.

Another common problem was a lack of clarity in the drawings. Many documents had to be printed, and production planners lost additional time walking around with the printed working drawings. “By making these drawings digital and splitting the information by workstation, these interruptions can be significantly reduced. I therefore recommended implementing a Manufacturing Execution System (MES). As part of this, I suggested several systems of this kind.”

Façadis Gevelbouw subsequently approached Dennis Koning, co-owner of Tryma. “Some of our machines are already installed in this factory. Almost two years ago, Tryma started developing its own software. Initially, this was driven by the need to control our own machines and buffer systems, but we are also seeing an increasing need for digitalisation on the shop floor. This is how we started talking to Façadis. Most companies still work with paper at the moment. Because we already import a lot of information into TrymaSoft to control our machines, the step towards a visual workplace was a relatively small one.”

More efficient and less prone to errors

What Tryma had in mind with its software fitted perfectly with Façadis’ requirements. After completing his research, Huub continued to work on the implementation of TrymaSoft. “The system works based on an import from a production planning system and is used at Façadis on tablets. Employees can use it to open work orders, among other things, which has solved the paper-based documentation problem. They can also open PDF files containing detailed engineering drawings. All the numerous working drawings and work orders can now be viewed on a tablet. By zooming in, even the smallest detail is visible. Projects can be found using a search function that works with a keyboard or scanner. With the scanner, we can use a QR code to immediately retrieve the relevant window frame, eliminating three manual search steps. It works much more efficiently and is less prone to errors!”

Dennis adds: “What makes TrymaSoft unique is that it is a fully cloud-based solution. We host the software and database, and the customer only needs an internet connection and an account to access their own secure environment.” This can be done on tablets, as well as laptops, PCs and smartphones. “Our goal is ultimately to connect to all commonly used production planning systems and digitalise the entire process.”

Huub says the feedback within Façadis Gevelbouw has been very positive: “The collaboration is very pleasant because TrymaSoft is easily accessible, and thanks to their knowledge and experience in the industry, they are able to contribute valuable input. We are looking forward to the new modules that TrymaSoft is developing. Personally, I see it as a valuable addition to the process. Structuurware provides more structure, reduces dependence on ad hoc communication and creates a solid foundation for further digitalisation of the production process!”
